Description
Donald Byrd: Off To The Races
With Jackie McLean, Pepper Adams, Wynton Kelly, Sam Jones and Art Taylor.
US mono pressing with blue & white deep groove labels and article-no.: BLP 4007.
"47 West 63rd Street" adress on both labels and on back of sleeve (no "Inc" there).
RVG and P (ear) in dead wax on both sides. "R" and "Inc." on both labels.
The release date of this recording was January 1959, the "R" and "Inc" were first used in late 1959,
the back-cover adress changed to "Blue Note Records, Inc., 43rd West 61st" in January 1960.
Since I know there are versions of this recording still without "R" and "Inc" on the label,
the copy for sale can't rightfully be called an actual 1st pressing,
But taking into account all the above mentioned data, I think it's fair to say it's
been most likely manufactured the year it was released.
The auctioned Jazz records this week stem from the estate of a German public official who treated his
discs with the utmost care. Check the other listings to find some extraordinarily well preserved rarities!
-
Condition Cover: Strong VG+. Thick front laminated sleeve without splits and light wear only.
Right top and left bottom corners are slightly bumped, please check the pictures. Besides that glossy front has minimal wear only.
Back is slightly yellowed and has name and date written with pen.
-
Condition Vinyl: Strong EX. Can hardly have ever been played, pristinely preserved surfaces.
just a few faint paperscuffs visible under strong light. Beautiful audio throughout!
There is a small damage on the outer rim of side 2, but when I put down the needle I only heard one light click before
the music actually started.

A note about my record-grading:
I usually only visually grade the LPs under strong light and I only playgrade them ( i.e. the portions that seem to have signs of usage), if I can't be sure of their actual condition.
If records show stronger signs of soiling I'll professionally clean them (Okki Nokki RCM), but I'm not doing this if it's obviously only dust, as I know that collectors usually prefer their
very own way of record-cleaning.
My goal is to always decribe the records appropriately and I will name every visible and/or audible defect in my detailed description. If regardless of my precautions
you should ever be dissatisfied with the condition of a record, please contact me before leaving negative or neutral feedback to give me the chance to resolve your query.
I'm confident, however, that this will hardly ever be the case. I've been selling records for many years now and so far complaints fortunately have been the utter exception
