Absolutely the very most rare Dave Matthews Band record. 2 sided 12" single of Don't Drink the Water. Side A plays the 4:35 version of Don't Drink the Water, Side B plays the 6:35 version of Don't Drink the Water. Comes in original white paper sleeve, with info insert.
In terms of rarity, this record puts the Before These Crowded Streets vinyl and Too Much / Jimi Thing vinyl , to shame. This record was pressed in 1998 but only recently discovered by DMB collectors. The primary reason the record has been so rarely seen since 98 is because the record itself makes no mention of it being a Dave Matthews Band record. But the record does have the distinct Before These Crowded Streets cup stain artwork. So, unless you knew Don't Drink the Water was DMB or recognized the artwork, you'd probably not know this was a DMB record.
The lack of information about this record was part of DMB's marketing strategy in the UK and Germany. The record was issued with a strange info insert (pictured). The title was simply a question mark. The idea was to get people asking themselves "what band is this?" The strategy unsuccessful.
This is just the second time this record has been offered for sale on ebay. The previous listing lasted only about 4 hours before it was purchased. I'm willing to discuss payment plans and anything else the buyer requires.
The vinyl itself is in excellent, near perfect condition. No skips/pops/jumps or problems. Perfect shiny gloss. The playback of this record is only OK on my unit. I think a very high end player will be needed to get optimum audio quality out of this record. It's a 12" 33 and the 6:35 DDTW takes up the entire side B. My assumption is the sound is fantastic on an audiophile quality set up. Not many of these records were ever pressed and very very few are still around.
This item would make the perfect gift, or be the prize piece in even the largest of DMB collections.
