ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful LP from Mercury (SR90255, US pressing, plum/silver label, RFR-1 stampers, stereo, colorback jacket) features conductor Antal Dorati and the London Symphony Orchestra's resplendent account of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64, sumptuously recorded at Watford Town Hall, London, on 23 June 1961.

According to the back of the jacket "Wilma Cozart was recording director, Harold Lawrence was musical supervisor, and Robert Eberenz was chief engineer, working in a basic set-up derived by Wilma Cozart and C.R. Fine. George Piros made the tape-to-disc transfer; John Johnson made the tape-to-disc monaural transfer."

The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Davd G. Rubin, printed in English only. The striking cover art reproduces a detail from an 1828 military plate (courtesy "A La Vieille Russie" photographed by Henry Ries.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is miniscule corner wear, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. However, if you must have a flawless copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a truly excellent collector's copy.
