Description
This rare Dorsey Burnette Gold Star Acetate Record “Audiodisc” is a must-have for music enthusiasts and collectors alike. This comes from the home of a recording peer of Burnette from the late 1950s and early 1960s during the early rockabilly years. It is believed to be an unreleased piece, adding to its collectible value. Many of the Burnette Brothers (Johnny & Dorsey) music was recorded at the famous Gold Star Recording Studios on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood founded by David Gold and Stan Ross.
This studio was the genesis for Phil Spector’s famous “wall of sound” as Spector developed his production skills and echo chamber techniques from Stan Ross (owner/engineer) beginning in the 1950s. Spector produced many huge recorded hits in the Gold Star Studios for The Beach Boys, Ronettes, Eddie Cochran, Sonny & Cher, Herb Alpert, Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix just to name a few. The Wrecking Crew backed many of these artists during these recordings at Gold Star.
Dorsey and Johnny Burnette used Joe Osborne (bass), Glen Campbell (rhythm) and James Burton (lead) on a number of their early 1960’s recordings. This is a Who’s Who of guitar talent. I have found no evidence of this track on Dorsey’s documented Gold Star tracks but was produced at Gold Star (Spector involved?) and this original 8” acetate given to him. I believe this acetate was given to a recording peer of Dorsey’s for their personal collection. It is believed to be in the early 1960s when Dorsey was recording more solo tracks.
The disc is a true gem for fans of Dorsey Burnette and collectors of early rockabilly and rock era tracks.
