"As I review this album, I can not find anything wrong with any of Azgorh's works as he always delivers in such a short space of time, and this album is a masterpiece. The first track, The Mark That Lies Beneath, is a song that has a great structure and many different paces used. At 2:12 the first change of pace is in this song and really fits the atmosphere of chaos. The guitar at the 4 minute mark emits a melodic guitar solo that works really well in the passage of the song.
Azgorh shrieks with pure malevolence as if he is summoning demons and is in my opinion, the best vocalist in black metal. The guitars have a very raw feeling to them as with the rest of the music, but it emits a feeling of beauty with the drums being very technical and no beat is out of place. The next song on the album, White Tomb of a Whispering Forest, is my favorite song on the album as the lyrics are very well executed, as well as the emotion emitted in this song. It's a very fast-paced song, but at the same time beautiful, especially with the guitar passage at 5:05, as this is the strongest point of the album and is my favourite song in black metal.
Winter Rain and Tides of Change is a short instrumental passage and is a welcome change of pace, revealing a short breeze of tranquility, though the only flaw in that the song is a little short and there is not much variety in it. The Nostalgia of the Old that runs through our veins is a mid- paced track and is executed very well. There is not much of a change in pace until 6:52 and this creates an extra dimension to the song. The drums are very consistent throughout.
Fields of Forgotten Melancholy is another short instrumental passage with simple, but effective drumming. This song sounds as if it was created for a warrior with lost honour and creates a very fine piece with no filler. Unforgotten Treachery is my least favourite song on the album as it does not have many pace changes and the guitar and drums hardly differ throughout it, but what rescues the song are the lyrics as they blaspheme against Christianity and the cowards and I think it is what makes the song very wrathful in its delivery of intolerance.
Embraced by a Tragic End is the most depressive on the album and creates a mood of misanthropy and majesty. The shrieks that Azgorh delivers in this song are very sorrowful, creating a very atmospheric mood. The lyrics are written as if it is a pact with Satan, undying and unbroken.
Wondering Alone and Forgotten Forever is another fast-paced song with frantic guitars and rapid drums. The pace changes in some instances, but it's not unique enough, like with the rest of the previous tracks of this album. Ghosts of the South is a perfect end to this album and creates a mysterious and haunting atmosphere. This song sounds as if it was made for the warriors of the past who fought and died with honor.
A masterpiece in all forms. For those who are fans of black metal, don’t miss out. Long live DTL!!"
