This beautiful and very rare LP from Boston Records (B-208, US pressing, black label, mono) Doriot Anthony Dwyer's early and still unsurpassed account of Prokofiev's Sonata for Flue and Piano in D Major Op. 94, recorded with the brilliant pianist Jesus Maria Sanroma.

Filling out the disc is an equally stunning performance of Roussel's Trio for Flute, Viola and Cello Op. 40, in which Dwyer is joined by her Boston Symhony Orchestra colleagues Joseph de Pasquale (viola) and Samuel Mayes (cello).

All three musicians were BSO principals, master musicians, and are wholly inside the sound worlds of these two composers. Both works were recorded in the early 1950s and playback is absolutely splendid.

There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Harold Rogers, Music Critic of The Christian Science Monitor - printed in English only. The striking cover design was executed by Wilson.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is GOOD. The spine is split nearly from top to bottom, but could be tape repaired. There is also edgewear and discoloration to the rear panel. However, the album remains solid and presentation worthy - not a collector's copy, but still a decent one.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
