Description
EAST OF EDEN – MERCATOR PROJECTED
A genuine 1969 UK first pressing of East Of Eden’s debut album, Mercator Projected, issued by Deram as SML 1038. The earliest ZAL-8688-1W / ZAL-8689-1W matrices confirm the original UK pressing.
An increasingly collectable late-1960s British psychedelic and progressive-rock album, combining electric violin, flute and saxophone with jazz-rock, Eastern influences and adventurous studio experimentation. Clean-playing original copies are particularly desirable, and the EX vinyl and playback are the main strengths of this example.

CONDITION
VINYL — EX VISUAL
The vinyl retains a strong, glossy appearance with only minimal evidence of careful handling. A very clean-looking original pressing, particularly impressive for an album issued in 1969.
PLAYBACK — EX
Fully play tested and delivers excellent playback throughout. The sound is clear, powerful and highly enjoyable, allowing the album’s unusual mixture of psychedelic rock, jazz instrumentation and progressive experimentation to come through extremely well.
SLEEVE — VG
The original laminated sleeve remains structurally sound but displays visible age-related wear. There are creases across the front and rear, laminate wear, edge rubbing and wear around the corners and opening.
Despite these cosmetic faults, the sleeve remains complete and presentable, with strong artwork and clearly readable rear text. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
INNER SLEEVE — VG
The original blue-bordered Decca stereo company inner is included. It shows age-related creasing, wear and some discolouration but remains an important original component of this first pressing.
COLLECTORS NOTES
Mercator Projected is East Of Eden’s sought-after debut and an established cult title among collectors of late-1960s British psychedelic, progressive and jazz-rock recordings.
The 1W/1W matrices, original Deram labels, laminated Clarifoil sleeve and period Decca stereo inner identify this as a proper original UK issue rather than a later repress. Although the outer sleeve is graded VG, finding an original copy with EX vinyl and EX playback is a significant advantage and makes this a very worthwhile collector’s example.
