This auction is for a ultra RARE 1941 EDDIE CANTOR 78 RPM ACETATE RECORD RECORDING (see pics). Record was recorded by HARRY SMITH RECORDING of NEW YORK for FAMOUS MUSIC CO for use on the WEAF radio staion network. This acetate record records the song, "BOY OH BOY".

NOTE: There are no records of Eddie Cantor ever recording this song for retail sale so this may be the only recording of Canter singing this song.

The song itself was recorded live and used for radio play on the WEAF radio station in New York City on 12/17/1941. Song is a live recording as applause can be heard at the end of the song.

Song info: Words by Frank Loesser. Music by Sammy Timberg. Piano arrangment by Geo. N. Terry. The song itself is WWII themed and promotes supporting the war effort.

Record info: WEAF (aka WNBC) signed on for the first time on March 2, 1922, and was owned by AT&T/Western Electric. It was the first commercially licensed radio station in New York City.

In 1922, WEAF broadcast what it later claimed to be the very first radio advertisement (actually a roughly 10-minute-long talk anticipating today's radio and television infomercials).

In 1926, WEAF was purchased by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), making it a sister station to WJZ. RCA then formed the National Broadcasting Company, which operated two radio chains. WEAF became the flagship station of the NBC Red Network. The other chain was the NBC Blue Network, whose programming originated at WJZ (now WABC), also owned by RCA. As a result of the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement of 1941 (NARBA), WEAF became a clear channel station, and could be heard across most of the eastern half of North America at night.

*Condition: Record is in nice overall shape and plays fine from start to finish. There is plenty of pops and crackle during play. There are some surface mars but they do not affect play (no skipping). The reverse side is un-recorded.

The record itself is an aluminum disk that has a coating of lacquer  which the mustic has been cut into.

*An acetate disc is a type of phonograph (gramophone) record, a mechanical sound storage medium, widely used from the 1930s to the late 1950s for recording and broadcast purposes and still in limited use today.

They are also known as a lacquer (a technically correct term preferred by engineers in the recording industry), test acetate, dubplate (a term originating from Jamaican sound system culture), or transcription disc (a special recording intended for, or made from, a radio broadcast).
