Description

*Extremely Rare* and Desirable Edison Diamond Disc #51775 featuring CHARLEY SKEETE'S ORCHESTRA with "DEEP HENDERSON" Fox Trot (HOT!) and "TAMPEEKOE" Fox Trot (HOT!).

Both sides are in Excellent Condition with several light scratches and couple of small heavier scratches on R side that do not detract.

Both sides play beautifully.  A different copy of this same Edison record in similar condition realized $651 on eBay last year.

Charley Skeete was a black jazz band leader in New York City who walked into a recording studio JUST ONCE...on June 8, 1926.  That recording studio he chose was Edison's.

Charley Skeete's Orchestra recorded only two selections that day which are here on this Edison Diamond Disc. And they are FABULOUS if you enjoy Early Hot Jazz.  Notable band members that day were: Charley Skeete (piano), Gene Johnson (bass sax), Cliff Glover (clarinet), Tommy Benford (drums), Leonard Davis (trumpet)[awesome solos!], Jimmy Harrison (trombone).

These are two of the finest early jazz selections ever recorded!

Important Note for anyone unfamiliar with Edison Diamond Disc records:  Edison Diamond Disc records including this one must ONLY be played on a modern turntable with light weight tone arm or with care on an Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph equipped with an Edison Diamond Disc Reproducer that is in excellent playing condition.  Under no circumstances should any Edison Diamond Disc record ever be played on a vintage phonograph using a steel needle.
