EDITH WILSON AND ORCHESTRA - HANDY MAN/I'LL GET EVEN WITH YOU VICTOR V-38624

Description

Great and wonderful relaxed singing and accompaniment from Edith Wilson, the well known jazz singer and her unknown band. Recorded in New York on 6 October 1930. The performance features the jazz guitar prominently and backing is excellent. Record appears around VG to VG+ (Handy)/ VG+ (Even) with some minor scrapes and scuffs (more on handy side) and very early signs of greying and minor needle wear on both sides. Decent shine and labels are fine with a little fade, more on "B" side, and very slight wear. The date of recording has been written on the run-out area I think in snowpake.  The playback is better than appearance, with low background noise and great fidelity, although crackle is more noticeable on the "Handy" side however plays loud and clear and is really in generally good condition.
This is a very rare record which shows early swing and/or vaudeville influences . Great performances and highly collectable. It can be regarded as both jazz and blues and appears in Rust and the Blues and Gospel Records reference books.
