This prog album is one of rare beauty. Mathematical musical prowess only comparable to King Crimson at its best and the utter originality of VDGG.

Egg marry abstract Canterbury jazz, ELP style symphonic workouts and absurd avant-gardisms and the results are masterful. "I Will Be Absorbed" is the musical equivalent of a madman taking a sunny-day run through the fields, and "While Growing My Hair" is always a good surreal singaglong. "Blane", part of the mindblowing yet unimaginatively named "Symphony No. 2" suite, is basically noise music and is great example of how radical prog could be. Also keep an ear out for Dave Stewart (not the guy from the bloody Eurythmics as some people seem to think) and his entertaining keyboard theatrics which, in the last track particularly, steal the show. Prog doesn't get much better than this, and if it weren't for this album I probably wouldn't listen to the genre as much as I do today.

WHAT MAKES THIS LP REALLY SPECIAL IS THAT THIS IS THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING EVER MADE - WITH A WITHDRAWN TRACK CREDITED ON THE LABELS!!!!  AND THIS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ON THIS LP!!!!  INCREDIBLY - DESPITE THIS LP ON SELLING IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS, THERE WERE ACTUALLY THREE DIFFERENT PRESSINGS OF THIS LP!!!!  WHEN THIS LP WAS DUE FOR RELEASE - AT THE VERY LAST MOMENT 'MOVEMENT 3' ON SIDE 2 WAS DENIED COPYRIGHT, AND WITHDRAWN PRIOR TO THE RELEASE DATE - AND THEREFORE NEVER PRESSED ONTO THE RECORD (NONE EXIST)!!!!  HOWEVER, CLEARLY SOMEONE FORGOT TO TELL THE PRESSING PLANT - AS THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSINGS ARE RADICALLY DIFFERENT TO ALL LATER PRESSINGS!!!!  AND FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW - HERE ARE THE 3 DIFFERENT PRESSINGS:-

1) 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING - THIS ONE HAS - 'SILVER TEXT' ON THE LABELS,  THE COLOUR OF THE LABELS IS VERY DARK IN COLOUR!!!!  EXISTS IN MONO & STEREO.

2) 2nd PRESSING - 'BLACK TEXT' ON THE LABELS.  LABELS ARE BRIGHT ORANGE.  EXISTS IN STEREO ONLY - AND IS PROBABLY A YEAR OR TWO AFTER RELEASE.

Vinyl: EX+.  Barely played fantastic example. First press silver printed labels. Black printed labekls are a second press. I'm very happy to be able to present this Canterbury gem by the legendary EGG  in this wonderful condition. The audio is simply sublime played on my Technics deck with Linn Sondek cartridge and through my Rotel amp and B&W speakers.  This vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album that showed that really went largely under the radar. Why ...? 

 Unbelievably it has no hairlines or marks  and the audio is simply stunning.  I played this through in full and thoroughly enjoyed it, indeed my most intensive listen for this week.. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be very hard to find this again, it is indeed mega rare now in this kind of condition. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. 

 Sleeve: VG++.  Fantastic looked after front laminated sleeve with beautiful rich colours and with just some minor creasing. Beautiful sharp edges, the spine is fully legible. There is a light wave to the front. A beautiful original single sleeve. The winner will be very pleased indeed!! No marks, no seam splits or tears.
