This is the original first release on vinyl as a 10" EP (VCL 5003), It was recorded as a two night farewell to the Electric Circus Club in Manchester on October 1st & 2nd, 1977.
The story is that the club was attracting more people than it could handle and it thus had to close down (or something). The original EP was released in June 1978.
2nd October 1977: Electric Circus, Manchester
The Electric Circus was supposed to close and various Manchester bands appeared at memorial gigs for the club on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd. Joy Division played on the Sunday.
During "At a later date" Bernard shouted "You all forgot Rudolf Hess!", this was the track picked for the live 10 inch compilation "Live At The Electric Circus" released by Virgin the following year.
How to tell original UK copies (on vinyl) from UK reissues:
The original release on Virgin consisted of 5000 copies on blue vinyl, the rest on black vinyl. All of these had a printed inner sleeve and blue labels.
Catalogue number VCL 5003
This is also available in black vinyl, catalogue number VCL 5003 but with red/green labels.
The UK reissue from the 1980s had no printed inner sleeve plus new and different red/green labels. Catalogue number OVED 170. There is also a version with a white and grey labels (again with no inner sleeve).
