Description
ELECTRONIC MUSIC FROM YORK
(York Electronic Studios YES 2-4) This is a copy of the very rare and beautiful 3 album box set from 1973 on YES (York Electronic Studios) Records. An original private pressing of UK experimental electronic works by 7 different British composers all recorded at York University's Electronic Music Studios.
This music was recorded by Students at York University in 1973. Some of those involved went on to become highly important and influencial names in experimental music, jazz, contempory classical music. Most notably Trevor Wishart and Martin Wesley-Smith. Only 100 copies of this LP set are known to have been pressed, most copies being given to those involved and sold to other students at the university. The style of the music here is very varied, as is the quality, but it's certainly not without historical and musical interest. This was the second release on the York Electronic Studios label, also known for The York Pop Music Project and solo proects by Trevor Wishart.
The set includes a 4 page 12" x 12" booklet with details and photos of each composer plus biographical and program notes, in part by the composers.

The records are generally in excellent condition - bright and shiny with few signs of use except for a small scratch at the start of record 2 side 2 which jumps/clicks and a few small surface marks on record 3 side which causes some crackling. There is no writing or stickers on the labels.
The insert is in very good+ condition with no tears or defacings, apart from a couple of small blemishes and a fold. The box has some breaks to the sides and has been tape repaired a few times (some of the tape has yellowed with age) but the illustrated front has no splits or tears (there are a few creases).
The insert and box has a couple of small library stamps on them from when the set was part of the Music Faculty of The University Of Sussex.
While the box has seen better days and has been repaired, the records are generally in excellent condition for their age. A nice example of a very rare vintage box set.
