Here is a really excellent sounding very rare original uk MONO first press freakbeat-psych album by the brilliantly named 'Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera'. A long name for a short lived British band that was formed in 1967 during the peak of British Psychedelia, they were definitely one of the most advanced and original bands from their era. The first band name option was to be 'The Velvet Opera', but Dave Terry appeared at one recording session wearing a long black cape and a preachers hat, the band immediately identified him with Sinclair Lewis fictional character 'Elmer Gantry' and in that moment his name changed and the band was baptized as 'Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera'.

This copy on offer here is the rarer original uk mono first issue, it is in excellent condition and plays and sounds superb. 

This album is choc full of brilliant original late 60's psych-freakbeat tunes, it still sounds amazing today, there are no bad tracks on this album at all, the 'prog.archives' gives this LP a really excellent rating of 4.75 out of a possible 5 and when you hear it you will know why, this is one of my favourite uk 60's albums of all time, if you like the Zombies 'Odyssey & Oracle', early 'Pink Floyd' and bands like Andwella's Dream, uk Kaleidoscope, Skip Bifferty and the Koobas then you will absolutely love 'Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera'.

MONO VINYL = EX

The thick mono vinyl is in excellent clean condition, both sides still have their original sheen with just a few small light wispy top surface marks and some ultra-fine hairlines, there is one small very fine hairline scratch right at the end of the track 'Mother Writes', this only causes a few low level tics for the last few turns of the track and just a couple more for the first few turns of the following track, these tics really are pretty minor and are over in no time, the rest of the album plays and sounds really superb with barely any other light crackle or tics at all. The sound quality is really excellent and clean and clear throughout. This is a very nice clean mono copy that will not disappoint.

MONO DIRECTION LABELS = EX

Both mono direction labels are in excellent clean condition, there are no bad marks or faults or areas of wear.

UPTON PRINT FRONT LAMINATED SLEEVE = EX

The front laminated single sleeve was made and printed in the uk by the Upton Printing Group. This cover is clean and tidy with no nasty faults at all. The front lamination is in great condition having just a few lamination creases near the top left corner, these look worse in the picture than they actually do when you have the sleeve in front of you.

The top and bottom edges and spine are in really excellent strong wear free condition, all spine text is bold and clear and very easy to read. The vinyl has not been removed or replaced from the cover very often at all so the opening edge is still nice and sharp with no feathering or weekened areas. The white matt back is still in really superb very clean condition, one of the best i have seen, there is barely any wear or discolouration or marking at all, whatever slight marking there is really is very minor and hardly even worth mentioning. This is a excellent front laminated sleeve in excellent clean condition with no nasty unsightly faults at all.

WHITE PAPER INNER SLEEVE = EX

The white paper inner sleeve is in excellent condition. The vinyl has been kept in a more vinyl friendly poly-lined inner for many years, both will be packed and sent to the winning bidder.

I pack my records very well, the album will be removed from the outer cover to avoid seem/edge splits in transit, plenty of rigid cardboard support will be used to avoid corners bending, this album will reach you in the same condition as advertised.
