Recorded on September 26, 1969, this is a Blue Note issue and a White Label Demo / Promo. Record in thick card USA sleeve. LP has two labels on each side (see photos) Has ‘VAN GELDER’ stamped on both sides.
Record shows no sign of play and near mint. Unlaminated sleeve is very good – just a little surface wear but no rips,splits or writing. A rare example of a Blue Note Demo!
A fine example of the late great drummer on this 48-year old session.
Review by Drum Magazine: “This is the classic Elvin album. If you only get one, get this. This music is not just about multiple meters. It’s beyond meter, harmony, and tight structures. There’s no piano on the date so many tunes seem to lack harmonic centers, relying on the bass to keep time and the horns to hint at chords. Jones is constantly shifting around the set letting the rhythms develop as Candido locks into him.”
