Description

UP FOR AUCTION IS AN EXTREMELY RARE 7" ELVIS COSTELLO RECORDING OF 'I CAN'T STAND UP FOR FALLING DOWN' PRESSED ON 2-TONE RECORDS IN 1980.  VINYL IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  B-SIDE OF RECORD HAS 'GIRLS TALK'.  AFTER THE COLLAPSE OF RADAR RECORDS IN 1979, ELVIS'S MANAGER, JAKE RIVIERA, WANTED A ONE-OFF SINGLE IMMEDIATELY AND PUT OUT THIS RECORD ON THE SPECIALS 2-TONE LABEL.  WEA RECORDS WHO HAD OWNED RADAR OBTAINED A COURT INJUNCTION TO STOP THE 2-TONE SINGLE BEING SOLD.  BY MARCH OF 1980, RIVIERA SET UP F-BEAT RECORDS TO DISTRIBUTE COSTELLO MUSIC AND STOP 2-TONE ELVIS SINGLES FROM BEING SOLD.  ABOUT 13000 COPIES OF 2-TONE SINGLES WERE PRODUCED AND A LOT WERE GIVEN AWAY AT VARIOUS GIGS FROM LONDON TO NEW YORK.  THESE 2-TONE COPIES ARE NOW PRIZED BY COLLECTORS EVERYWHERE.
