"Blue Suede Shoes" EPA 747 1956 U.S. RCA temporary sleeve (reproduction)
"Blue Suede Shoes"/"Tutti Frutti"/"I Got A Woman"/"Just Because" US (RCA) EPA 747 Sleeve only (no record)
This "temporary" black & white sleeve was used to ship the "Blue Suede Shoes" EP to DJs in early 1956 before the official artwork (the same as that used for LPM 1254) was ready. Carl Perkins single was racing up the charts & RCA was beginning to think they had signed the wrong guy. So A&R man Steve Sholes had Elvis cut "Blue Suede Shoes" at his first New York recording session on January 30th, 1956. This EP also contained a cover of Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" from the same sessions, Ray Charles "I Got A Woman", recorded a few weeks earlier in Nashville & the Sun out-take "Just Because". This EP cracked the Billboard Top 100, peaking at #20 on April 7th, 1956 but it was no match for Carl Perkins #1 smash. The front & back cover are the same & look great with very slight "crinkling" due to the type of paper that it is printed on but overall the sleeve is otherwise very nice with no tears or writing. To be safe, we'll give it a VG+. You are bidding on the picture sleeve only- no record is enclosed. *Note- we got this sleeve in an Elvis collection & we believe that it is a later reproduction- not the rare original.
