ELVIS PRESLEY- GOOD ROCKIN TONIGHT- VERY RARE EP- 1957

This is an auction for a very rare EP by, Elvis Presley, Good Rockin' Tonight.

This was released by HMV Records in 1957 and has catalogue number 7EG8256. This is the 1st press which was only released with a round centre. Please check the pictures for clarification.

Matrix: 7TAV 415 1N     7TAV 416 1N

Condition: The sleeve has a small scratch mark on the bottom edge, this has not torn through. There is buffing to the corners, mouth edge and one place on the spine. Some light creasing and the impression of the vinyl can be seen when tilted to the light. On the rear a discolour ring can be seen on the centre, with some other discolour dirt marks, some of which may clean of the laminated surface. Looking closely along the mouth edge, one small place of lamination peeling can be seen on each side. Lastly on the bottom rear flipback edge, where scratched the flipback edge has peeled back slightly. This sleeve has no tears and is complete and graded at VG. Please check the pictures on supersize for clarification on condition. 

Both labels come in nice condition, label one is very clean with little more than a few spindle trails seen under close examination, the centre hole on this side has just one tiny wear mark seen at 4 o'clock. No dirt or finger marks on this side and a fine label.

Label two- also looks clean, under closer examination a tiny pen mark can just be seen under the E' for 'Voice' the letter I'. More spindle trails can b e seen on this side, with the centre hole showing some signs of wear. No dirt or finger marks can be seen on this label. Again please check the pictures, fine labels.

The vinyl retains its shine and looks clean in normal light, Under a strong light numerous light and feather scratches can be seen, there is also one finger mark and 3 scuff marks. I have of course play tested this record through both sides and took the following notes:

Side 1- This has, what I can only describe as a messy start, This seems to jump into the very start of the track, it is very abrubt with the music starting instantly from the run-in-groove. I have played this back a couple of times and I am none the wiser, I have not got another copy to check. The first three rotations of this side have, what can only be described as a thud, one on each rotation. This points to the fact that it may well jump into the start? After this it simply gets better and better. The quiet feckling heard from the start soon diminishes to the point that only the occasional crackle is heard. The audio is very strong and plays well above any crackles heard. Track two on this side plays even better with only the very occasional, very quiet crackle heard. The audio is superb on this track and is probably closer to near mint than VG+. Ignoring the start (first 10 seconds) on track one, that track plays at VG.

Side 2- This side starts with feckling, crackles that, like side one, soon diminish to only just be heard. The audio is even stronger on this side, with it being played less, with the audio playing well above any feckling heard. This gets better as it progresses to the point that track two plays with very little lessening in sound quality. Track two has only an occasional very quiet crackle and plays superbly well. Like side one, both tracks would grade the same, track one VG, track two on this side is near mint. There is not a constant hiss or crackle through both sides with much of this record playing completely clear.

As this stands I can only grade it at Good, because of the very start of side one, after this it grades a comfortable VG, with, as stated above, track two on each side playing much better than graded and certainly close to, if not, at near mint.

If you can ignore the very beginning of side one then this may be for you, A nice looking record for its age and certainly better than a gap filler, despite its low grade.
