For Elvis fan’s here is one of the holy grails – his last release on the SUN label from 1955. Fifty years later, this disk is outstanding – plenty of  vinyl luster with surface scuffs that you would expect for a fifty year old record – but no major dings or scratches. Trail off vinyl marked 45-U-156-X 20 and 45-U 157-X 20. Vinyl from these years was inconsistent in production and this record is a prime example – close examination reveals small “bubbles” and inconsistencies in the surface – but none affect playback. The labels show that the record was played, with a darker inner circle on the high point about midpoint in the label. (see photo) No tears, rips, stickers – however on the Mystery Train side – to the right of the title - in pencil – very lightly -  is the name “ANNA”. If ANNA was the sole owner of this record she took good care of it! Which is where this record stands out – playback on both sides is ecellent – a bit of surface noise just prior to the song beginning – but once the music starts there are no pop’s, hiss, crackle – absolutely nothing to take away from the music!

The fifth edition of the Goldmine 45 RPM Price Guide lists disk Sun 223 at $1250 in VG+. The surface and labels are a solid VG and the record plays NM-.

As always this is an absolute auction with no reserve - HIGH bidder wins! PLEASE see the photos. Photo's have been adjusted to allow for maximum detail, though I've tried to keep coloring as accurate as possible.

Shipping and Payment

Album and record will be shipped in separate heavy duty plastic sleeves to prevent any additional wear to occur during shipping. Shipping and handling is based on your zip-code. Insurance is recommended based on the value of the shipment at current USPS rates. 

International shipping will be "Registered Airmail Letter Post" with ample packing to guarantee safe arrival. If you are an international buyer, you must agree to use "Registered Airmail Letter Post" as the only time an item has been lost internationally was when I agreed not to ship with this service. I want you to receive your item and this seems to be the only way to make sure you do. Use the calculator to figure basic shipping and then be prepared to ADD $7.90 for "Registered Airmail Letter Post". If you’re unsure what the exact shipping charges will be, wait until I send you an invoice.

Payment with Pay Pal, money orders, cashiers check and personal checks, but you must allow 10 working days for a personal check to clear, before items will ship. Payment or arrangements must be made within 3 days of auction close.

GRADING: VINYL/JACKET

Near Mint (NM)

A NM record is “it looks like it just came from a retail store and was opened for the first time”. In other words, it’s nearly perfect.

Record – NM records are shiny, with no visible defects. Writing, stickers or other markings cannot appear on the label, nor can any “spindle marks”. NM records play with no surface noise.

Cover /Picture Sleeves – NM covers have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out markings, ring wear or any signs of human handling. NM Picture Sleeves should have no creasing, ring wear or seam splits of any kind. It should look as if it never housed a record.

Very Good Plus (VG+) or Excellent (EX)

A VG+ record can be described as “except for a couple of minor things, this would be Near Mint”

Record – May show some light signs of wear, including light scuff marks or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect sound are o.k. Minor signs of handling are o.k. such as telltale marks around the center hole. There may be some light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.

Cover /Picture Sleeves – VG+ covers might be marred by a cutout marking or promotional stamp. There might be light signs of handling, such as light creasing at the corners. There can be slight wear at the most vulnerable areas and even a tiny bit of ring wear.

Very Good

Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ record are more obvious on a VG record.

Record – They lack most of the original gloss found on factory fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches, deep enough to feel with a finger nail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, perhaps even occasional audible light scratch, especially in soft passages and during a songs intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or sticker will detract from the label of the disc.

Cover /Picture Sleeves – VG covers have more signs of wear, such as minor seam splits. Also minor writing tape or sticker may be present. Other signs of handling will be more evident, ring wear, especially at the top, bottom and middle of cover will be visible and it might affect the entire cover to a degree. Picture sleeves will have more signs of human handling. Ring wear in the middle of the sleeve where the raised label of the record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases and folds might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious, it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Writing may be present.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+)

Good does not mean bad! 

Record – A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. It will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear.  Label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing and damage due to tape, stickers trying to be removed.

Cover /Picture Sleeves – Good – Good Plus covers and picture sleeves have more significant seam splits, perhaps to the point they are taped closed, and highly obvious ring wear and heavier writing, such as huge letters a radio station might have put on a cover to deter theft.
