Description
ELVIS PRESLEY - ROCK 'N' ROLL. ...It all started here! UK 1st Pressing on HMV (CLP 1093) 1956.
Matrix stampers: 2XAV 255-1N | 2XAV 256-1N
'RT' tax code embossed either side of the spindle hole on Side 2.
Not to many of these have survived like this one. A very respectable EX/EX example. Some would grade this higher.
Vinyl grades a solid EXCELLENT. No obvious scratches. No marks that are feel-able to fingertip touch. Only light wispy marks from sleeve removal, maybe a couple of very light stylus scratches, but really amazing in all. You can 'level-up' with this one. An upgrade for many, of this I am certain.
Labels look fresh and neat too. Side one label has CLP 1093 text, and Side two has CLP. 1093 (note the dot). There are barely any marks around the spindle holes, suggesting to me it was not played much at all.
Fully laminated sleeve (front and back), with large crescent shape indented flip-backs, grades EXCELLENT. Lies nice and flat. Spine and spine text is all there and fully visible, with lamination intact. No side or edge splits, or separations.
There is a very careful sleeve repair – on the back, toward the middle area – along the bottom edge, where the extreme edge of the record had started to poke through. (Heavy vinyl v. flimsy sleeve!). It measures about 13mm at its widest point. The photos I've posted here are extreme close-ups. It's far more discreet when seen in the real.
(This was a 'graft' from another copy of the same LP, but whose sleeve was completely trashed – as they often are). Please look at the pictures. The grafted piece was age-faded - more yellowed - and not quite as 'white' as the actual sleeve, but it was the best I could do.
I have attempted to show the worst bits in the photos. These 1950s UK sleeves are notoriously fragile, and very few survive the rigors of time (and extensive use). In all, it's a prime example and a strong survivor.
The opening edge shows some feathery finger wear, but there are no tears, rips or pieces missing. Corners are all good. Lamination is all there too. There are a few light lamination creases that are on the top right of the reverse of the sleeve, (see photo), but really not a big issue.
This one will please most, if not all collectors.
