EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER Brain Salad Surgery (Atlantic SD 19124) RARE US Club Edition + Poster MINT!
RARE early pressing of the classic Emerson, Lake & Palmer album "Brain Salad Surgery," released on Manticore Records (November 1973) and distributed by Atlantic. This is the Columbia Record Club release, also from 1973.
"Onstage, EL&P usually overcome the shortcomings of their records—insufficient intensity and lack of worthy material—by working hard and busting their asses to play with incredible tightness (witness Pictures At An Exhibition). In the studio, their vision and grandiose schemes dilute the tightness, resulting in things like Brain Salad Surgery, on which their shortcomings outweigh undeniable moments of brilliance.(...) This LP only convinces me that EL&P really ought to record all their material in concert, for short of that I fear we`re doomed to more albums like Brain Salad Surgery - another record that shows this fine band to mixed effect." - Gordon Fletcher/Rolling Stone, January 31st 1974.
GRADING:
MINT(-) COVER in near-perfect condition, straight from old store stock. Please see photos for details.
- Original die-cut gimmick sleeve with artwork by Swiss surrealist artist H.R. Giger (1940-2014).
- Minor bumped corner at top right.
- Minor edge wear on rear sleeve (at right).
- Small crease to left edge of rear sleeve. Strictly storage wear only.
- The record comes in the custom-printed Atlantic Records inner sleeve.
- Lettering on rear sleeves says "Manufactured by Columbia House Under Licence" (at bottom right).
- Also includes the original tri-fold ELP poster/lyric sheet in unhandled MINT condition!
MINT(-) RECORD that looks unplayed.
- Absolutely pristine vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- No scuffs, hairlines or other visible wear to the record.
- Original first-pressing Manticore/Atlantic Records labels with no spindle wear whatsoever.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ST-A-732991 CRC-2" and "ST-MC-732992 CRC-1", thereby clearly denoting a 1973 US pressing.
- This record is hereby certified to be an original Columbia Record Club pressing of "Brain Salad Surgery", released in November 1973.
