Very Rare Repro of monster rare US LP released on Jubilee Records in 1970. late 70's/early 80's repro in a blue sleeve with black and white promo labels.
Emmylou Harris typically omits 1970's Gliding Bird from her discography; her first album was issued on the folk label Jubilee, which filed for bankruptcy within weeks of the LP's release. Cut before her tenure with Gram Parsons, it's a straightforward folk effort, owing more to Joni Mitchell than anything else; although most of the songs were composed by Tom Slocum, Harris' first husband, there are also a number of ill-suited covers, including Hank Williams' I Saw the Light and the Bacharach/David composition I'll Never Fall in Love Again.
Emmylou Harris has been an eminent figure in country music for over three decades. Supposedly "discovered" by the late Gram Parsons, her guest vocals on his two post-Burritos solo albums GP (1973) and Grievous Angel (1974) are part of the reason for those albums' classic status. Harris continued to use the Parsons aesthetic of "cosmic American music" in her long and distinguished recording career. Her 1995 album Wrecking Ball is regarded as a particularly bold experiment for the genre. In recent years, the gracefully aging songstress has remained on the cutting edge of progressive country, having recently worked with such contemporary artists as Ryan Adams and Bright Eyes.
