ENO/BYRNE My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts"UK 1st PRESS MINT
w/WITHDRAWN TRACK 'QU'RAN' - SUPERB - BARELY PLAYED
BRIAN ENO - DAVID BYRNEMy Life In The Bush Of Ghosts
UK EG RECORDS (EGLP 48) FIRST PRESSING (February 1981) OF DAVID BYRNE & BRIAN ENO'S GROUNDBREAKING CLASSIC "My Life In the Bush Of Ghosts"
THIS IS THE FIRST UK ISSUE CONTAINING THE TRACK 'QU'RAN'
THIS PRESSING WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WITHDRAWN AND THE LP RE-ISSUED WITH 'VERY, VERY HUNGRY' REPLACING THE 'OFFENDING' TRACK
In an interview for Pitchfork Media about the 2006 reissue, David Byrne commented about the track:
"Way back when the record first came out, in 1981, it might have been '82, we got a request from an Islamic organisation in London, and they said, 'We consider this blasphemy that you put grooves to the chanting of the Holy Book.' And we thought, 'Okay, in deference to somebody's religion, we'll take it off.' You could probably argue for and against monkeying with something like that. But I think we were certainly feeling very cautious about this whole thing. We made a big effort to try and clear all the voices, and make sure everybody was okay with everything. Because we thought, 'We're going to get accused of all kinds of things, and so we want to cover our asses as best we can.' So I think in that sense we reacted maybe with more caution than we had to. But that's the way it was."
The track "Qu'ran" was withdrawn after the first pressing and does not appear on ANY later editions or re-releases.

THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FULLY LAMINATED SLEEVE (WITH 'QU'RAN' LISTED)
A pioneering work for countless styles connected to electronics, ambience, and Third World music, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts expands on the fourth-world concepts of Hassell/Eno work with a whirlwind 45 minutes of worldbeat/funk-rock (with the combined talents of several percussionists and bassists, including Bill Laswell, Tim Wright, David van Tieghem, and Talking Heads' Chris Frantz) that's also heavy on the samples -- from radio talk-show hosts, Lebanese mountain singers, preachers, exorcism ceremonies, Muslim chanting, and Egyptian pop, among others. It's also light years away from the respectful, preservationist angles of previous generations' field recorders and folk song gatherers. The songs on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts present myriad elements from around the world in the same jumbled stew, without regard for race, creed, or colour. As such, it's a tremendously prescient record for the future development of music during the 1980s and '90s.
