The Performances

 

Two red hot sides, undisputed classics from the classic jazz era! Louis played nightly with the Erskine Tate Orch in this period and it shows: the performances are polished gems. Static Strut features Louis in two long exciting solos, egged on by Teddy Weatherford’s driving piano, and Stomp Evans solos with the best of them on alto and blazing baritone sax. The heat carries over into Stomp Off, Let’s Go on side 2, with further fine extended solos from Armstrong and Weatherford.

 

 

Rarity

 

As rare as it gets. Like several of the Vocalion 1000 series, this record barely exists..

 

 

Condition

 

Not great! It looks really knackered and beat, but the wonderful music battles the surface noise and comes out on top, 80% intact, and there is no distortion. Label somewhat faded on side 2.
