Now here's a rare gem that combines blues, with an all star hot jazz band! This one's from Eva Taylor and she was involved in music from the time she was a child, touring as part of the vaudeville act Josephine Gassman and her Picaninnies. She got to New York in 1920, and settled there, playing the usual Harlem clubs. While there she met the very well connected Clarence Williams, and soon they were wed.
She made her first recordings for Black Swan billed as 'the Dixie Nightingale.' She cut many records for Okeh and Columbia this one is from a session in New York City on November 10, 1923.
She’s singing “Open Your Heart” and “Old Fashioned Love” and is shown as with Lawrence Lomax (vocal duet) on this session. She’s accompanied by her husband Clarence, plus Tom Morris, Charlie Irvis, and Lorenzo Tio.
