COMMENT: This very rare LP contains readings by ten of the poets who were central to the Beat movement in the late 40s through the 1950s. Ginsberg performs in its entirety Howl for Carl Solomon, one of the seminal works in the Beat oeuvre. Ferlinghetti reads three poems from A Coney Island of the Mind as well as Dog. McClure is represented by four poems: The, Cat’s Air, Night Words, and The Ravishing. Whalen’s readings are The Road-Runner for L.J. Reynolds, Homage to Robert Creeley, and Small Tantric Sermon. Others are as follows: Broughton – Nativity 1956, Bridge to the Innermost Forest, The Madman’s House, Please Do Not Feed the Senators; Duncan – The Fear That Precedes Changes of Heaven, This Place Rumored To Have Been Sodom, and an excerpt from The Structure of Rime (Part 6); Rexroth – Noretorp-Noretsyh; Brother A. – The South Coast, Out of the Ash; Spicer – The Song of the Bird in the Loins, The Dancing Ape…, Psychoanalysis: An Elegy; and Miles – Project, Reception, Orderly, Message.
