Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +21,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. UNIVERSAL INVESTMENT VINYL ORIGINAL
  1. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Included in occult themed bands is the impossibly-rare Switzerland band "THE SHIVER" released its sole artifact 'WALPURGIS' in 1969 and displayed the very first "rock" album cover to feature the macabre art of famed Swiss artist "H.R. Giger.
  1. The title WALPURGIS is equivalent of Halloween yet in modern times is better known as the holy time of the year for the Satanic cults that worship Molech and other dark forces like Lucifer or Satan.
  2. THE SHIVER never explicitly engaged in promotion of the occult but rather flirted with its existence through its lyrics and visual imagery in only the context of  contemporary popular 'rock' music in the 60's era.

WALPURGIS is a strange yet woefully unknown & overlooked album due to supreme-rarity/ The mighty SHIVER emerging from the early nascent cradle when the progressive rock world was taking only its first steps out of the melting pot of 60s psychedelia.

  3. Formed in 1967 as Der Seiger in the Swiss city of St. Gallen by guitarist and singer Dany R'hle, this band actually has ties with another Swiss band with a Giger cover, namely Island through the connection of yet another contemporary band called Deaf.
  4. With a stint under the band name,The Shivers, the final 'S' was dropped with a final lineup of Dany R'hle (guitar, vocals), Jelly Pastorini (organ, piano), Mario Conza (bass, flute, vocals), Roger Maurer (drums, vocals) and Peter Robinson (lead vocals).
  5. While the band was clearly edging toward the future with progressive rock tendencies, THE SHIVER was certainly no King Crimson or East of Eden and existed in a somewhat anachronistic psychedelic swirl of organs and blues guitar that were all the rage in 1967's Summer of Love.

This is a bizarre album in many ways displays many styles seemingly unrelated yet somehow are cohesively tied by a mysterious atmosphere that permeates the various grooves on display. One of the first idiosyncrasies of the album is that it begins not with a heavy vocal driven rocker self-penned by the band setting the tone with a lengthy seven minute 'Repent Walpurgis' which is a psychedelic treat fortified with J.S. Bach's 'Prelude No. 1' from 'well-tempered clavier' rather derived from dreamy organ, lazy beatnik percussive drive and melodic soaring blues guitar riffs that ride an independent bass groove independently set apart from the rest of the crowd.
  6. As the lengthiest album track and most progressive of the pack, is the likely reason that THE SHIVER has for so long been included on lists of some of the earliest examples of progressive rock.

The rest of the album takes a different journey's whether its the short second track 'Ode To The Salvation Army' or 60's beat psychedelic rock followup 'Leave This Man Alone.'
  7. A cool blues rock display returns on 'What's Wrong About The Blues' meshes into 'Hey Mr Holy Man,' which is a dynamic thread of 'Dies-Irae' ('Grapes Of Wrath') delivers the goods in what one would expect to hear from an album with such phantastic cover art. Dominated by creepy ethereal mixings of organs, hazy percussive drive and dueling aspects of spaced out choral vocal utterances with spoken narration and a freak-beat flowing melodic groove at its best and one of the highlights of all acid rock vinyl recordings in the era...Also included is a moody enhancing re-working of the Animals' 'Don't Be Misunderstood' which keeps the album's overall feel in the 1966 / 67 timeline with its beat grooves and 60s underground sensibilities.
  8. 'No Time' follows suitably and the closer 'The Peddle' features with a lazy psychedelic organ driven blues rock groove.
  9. The SHIVER album has become a cult legend coupled with the darkly themed album cover art and the mysterious nature of the band's history, it somehow has become entangled within an occult ritualistic feel with heavy psych freakishness that has inspired the stylistic approach of darkly styled underground
finding it like an invisible planet on the other side of the sun, exerting an undetectable gravitational pull  while it utterly defies a logical explanation, yet one can never be sure.
  10. Repent Walpurgis (7:10)
Ode to the Salvation Army (0:38)
    Leave This Man Alone (5:15)
What's Wrong About the Blues (5:15)
  11. II
    Hey Mr. Holy Man (3:15)
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (4:40)
    No Time (2:50)
