This is the audiophile Direct to Disc LP record by Earl Fatha Hines. Fatha plays hits he missed. It is on the M&K label RT-105. This highly sought after record is in new condition, unplayed, still in original, unopened cellophane wrap as purchased. It has been stored upright in an outer plastic sleeve for years.
Musicians include Hines accompanied by Red Callender, bass and Bill Douglass, drums. Recorded at M&K Direct to Disc Studios, Beverly Hills, CA. Recording engineers Ken Kreisel and Steve McCormack. Pressing by Teldec, Germany.
Direct to disc means the recording goes directly from the microphone preamps to the record cutting lathe. The intermediate stage of tape recording is avoided. This gives an immediacy and fidelity to the sound and avoids the distortion provided by the extra stage of the electronic tape in those other recordings which are tape recorded first. Transient response and liveliness are about the best you can get in a LP record which has been recorded dirct cut as has this one. This is a live recording in that mistakes cannot be edited out.
