Description

EBM is a breathless, heavy step forward and Editors' furthest material yet - a sweeping, relentless push of full-bodied electro-industrial rock. The album title is an acronym of Editors and Blanck Mass, but also a knowing reference to Electronic Body Music, the powerful sound that emerged in the 1980s and heavily influenced Editors' new material. Here, the synthesizers of bands like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 and DAF thump gloomily among fog machines, strobe lights and the smell of leather.

The new album will be the first with new band member Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass. "This record has a strong physical component. EBM started with the intention of connecting with people and filling a very physical space. However, there is also an emotional physicality that runs throughout the album; an urgency and sense of panic. A discomfort. Even in the more tender moments, there's a longing for connection." explains Power. The addition of Power to the band meant that, for the first time, song structures no longer came from frontman Tom Smith. He and other band members Justin Lockey, Elliott Williams, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay were given files to tinker with in the studio when they finally got back together. "Ben was certainly an adrenaline rush in our creative process," Tom says. "The songs are so immediate and direct."
