Description
This auction is for the FIVE ALBUM SET of Ella Fitzgerald Sings The George And Ira Gershwin Song Book, on VERVE RECORDS.
This is a very attractive 5-LP set of Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of The George And Ira Gershwin Song Book.
From Wikipedia:
In 1959, at age 41 and at the peak of her vocal powers, Ella Fitzgerald embarked on the most ambitious recording project of her career: Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook. The sessions, marking her first collaboration with music legend Nelson Riddle and his orchestra, were released as a series of 5 Monaural Gatefold albums, with original cover artwork by the French artist Bernard Buffet.
The albums are a testament to both the iconic compositions of the Gershwin Brothers, and the peerless vocal talents of Ella Fitzgerald. Riddle arranged 59 Gershwin compositions for the album, including the two orchestral suites which open the album.
Though Fitzgerald was 22 years old at the time George Gershwin died, Ira Gershwin was still alive to see this project completed, and helped contribute lyrics and support to some songs on the album which had never been recorded before. Ella's recording of "But Not for Me" won her the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Performance.
CONDITION
The Vinyl on all 5 LPs appears overall to be a strong VG+/NM, graded visually. The labels are unworn and the vinyl bright and glossy, albeit with an occasional non-sounding paper scuff and a trace of dust. Albums were only played twice; the rest is shelf-wear. Stored always in a smoke-free, pet-free, kid-free home.
