💿 DESCRIPTION

Released on March 23, 1956, Elvis Presley is the historic debut studio album by the King of Rock and Roll. It spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, becoming the first rock and roll album ever to top the charts, and the first million-selling album of the genre.

The album features a groundbreaking fusion of country, rhythm and blues, and rockabilly, including legendary tracks like "Blue Suede Shoes" and Elvis's unique take on Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti". The iconic cover photo was taken by William V. "Red" Robertson during a performance at the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory in Tampa, Florida, on July 31, 1955. The graphic design of this cover—with the artist's name spelled out in bold pink and green lettering—became a cultural milestone in its own right, later famously paid homage to by The Clash on their 1979 masterpiece London Calling.

  • This is a highly sought-after, genuine 1956 first US pressing. It features the original "Long Play" text at the bottom of the label, which was later changed to "Mono" or removed entirely in subsequent reissues.

Key details confirming its early 1956 status:

    • The "New Orthophonic" High Fidelity text is present on the right side of the label, printed under the side numbers (1 and 2).

    • The "Nipper" Dog logo is crisp, positioned at the top center with a black background (not the later silver or color-ringed variants).

    • Tracklist credits: Track 1 on Side 2 properly credits "Dorothy LaBostrie-Richard Penniman" for "Tutti Frutti".
