Description
Up for auction is a pretty nice copy of the rarest 'HMV' Elvis title. Released as his second LP Album offering in 1956 as 'Elvis' in USA & Australia, it was released in this England only sleeve on the 'His Master's Voice' label before RCA had established a label identity in the UK. RCA quickly established a label identity not long after the release of this HMV LP 'Elvis Presley No. 2' and rereleased the LP with the familiar sleeve artwork of this release elsewhere as 'Elvis'. This HMV release was only issued in very limited numbers and even fewer copies survive in a playable condition with the sleeve intact. This example I rate the vinyl visually VG. Cosmetically to look at the vinyl has many light marks and a few heavier marks. Labels are visually pleasing being in EX+ Condition. The vinyl has been play tested in its entirety and plays with no jumps, skips or jams. Vinyl plays and music sounds crisper and better than the record's visual appearance would suggest. A lot of the visual damage is largely superficial and doesn't seem, or sound - strong audio - to have damaged the grooves to listen to. Quieter tracks such as 'Old Shep' and 'How's The World Treating You?' play with noticeable surface noise that doesn't overpower the music. All other tracks play with a little surface noise but are loud, vibrant and crisp. Vinyl play grades at VG+. Has original paper inner sleeve which is graded VG having some age browning, creasing and seam splits. The outer sleeve is mostly intact having an approximately three inch spine split and an approximately two & a quarter inch circular tear on the rear near the middle of the sleeve opening which has been repaired with paper stuck over the tear from the inside of the sleeve to prevent further tearing. Altogether a really great example of this incredibly rare LP.
