GOOD ROCKIN TONIGHT / I DON'T CARE IF THE SUN DON'T SHINE

PLAYS a strong VG to VG+, very strong clear sound. Labels are nearly PERFECT.

That, in itself, say's a lot. From 1954, Elvis' second record, in it's rarest incarnation, the 78 RPM. Typically found chipped, broken, cracked, written on, or  just plain "juked" (played to death).  This one is NONE of these!!!

Since diamond styluses were not available in 1954, and 78's were designed to be played with the old steel "spike" needles, 78 RPM's almost invariably were played until worn out. I'm sure you've seen 78's with the tell-tale whitening of the grooves, where those spikes literally ate away the 78 playing surface.  And many had one main groove worn out where jukeboxes "dropped" the steel needle so many times.

  Now, let me tell you about this 78. It's not perfect.  It has a slight minimal warp,  which did NOT affect the playing of this item. It appears to lay flat, but there IS a warp. I played it using a diamond stylus, with no need to use a weighted arm, to review it's audible quality. The PLAYING SURFACE of this item is as follows:

 "Good Rockin Tonight" side: VG to VG+, some scuffing, no major scratching. It PLAYS clear, strong and loud. The "Sun hiss" is evident, as it is in almost EVERY early Sun release prior to late 1955. But the music has not been diminished from multiple plays. This record appears NOT TO HAVE BEEN PLAYED often, despite the scuffing. The grooves are clean, and I can see no evidence of being played with a spike needle.  This is the reason this particular record played so clear when I reviewed it.

"I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine" side: VG, some scuffing, similar to the first side, with one scratch visible, but was NOT audible when I reviewed this record.  BOTH SIDES of this 78 played CLEAR, CLEAN and LOUD. There is NO evidence of this side being played with a spike needle, either.

  As you can see from the actual SCAN of this record, the labels are GORGEOUS, with FULL BRIGHT yellow tint, NO fading, NO writing, and NO wear!!!   The center hole is well defined, without the wear that indicates multiple plays. Typically, I also use digital photos to illustrate a record's lustre, but the labels for this one were so clean, my scanner did it for me!

If you want the ultimate SUN 210 for framing, this is IT.  The labels are GORGEOUS!!!  If you're going to play it, this one will certainly meet your audio expectations with clear, bright sound. I've tried to detail the scuffing, the scratch on the B side, and the VERY SLIGHT warpage that did not affect the playing of this item.
