Description
The Cover and Vinyl are in excellent, near mint condition. The A side has only been played once from new and the B side has never been played due to having more than one copy.
UNIQUE RECORD - ADVERTISED AS ELVIS PRESLEY'S FIRST PROFESSIONAL RECORDING IN 1954 (ELVIS CLASSIC EC-5478). COMES IN SLEEVE WITH NEAT GRAPHICS OF ELVIS' FACE AND NARRATIVE THAT INDICATE A LIMITED EDITION.
THE BACK OF THE RECORD SLEEVE SHOWS VARIOUS LETTERS AND DOCUMENTATION THAT CLAIM TO AUTHENTICATE THAT THE VOICE ON THE RECORD IS ELVIS PRESLEY. ONE OF THE SEVERAL LETTERS IS SIGNED BY PETE FALCO, A ONE-TIME SO CALLED FRIEND OF ELVIS. IT READS:
"THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT I, PETE FALCO, WAS WORKING WITH A MUSICAL GROUP CALLED THE RED-DOTS IN 1954. WE WERE RECORDING AT AUDIO RECORDERS OF ARIZONA AND NEEDED SOMEONE TO SING A SONG ENTITLED "TELL ME WHY PRETTY BABY." A YOUNG MAN BY THE NAME OF ELVIS PRESLEY CAME INTO THE STUDIO AND I PAID HIM THE SUM OF $15.00 TO SING ON TAPE FOR US."
Upon Listening you realise straight away that it definitely is NOT Elvis, far from it, but the hype that it caused upon it's release, for it's novelty and mystery aspects, make this recording a very desirable single to own by a lot of Elvis collectors. It was possibly one of the most curious mystery Elvis singles released.This is why it has become a real rare collector's item.
THE ACTUAL RECORD WAS RELEASED IN 1978 BY ANDREW LEE JACKSON AS A TWO-SIDED 45 SINGLE.
This has to go down as one of the biggest "cons" in the Elvis world, but one can understand the hype it caused at the time.
The Actual Singer on the single was later found out to be Michael Conley.
