This is one of Elvis’ original Sun recordings. The labels look great and the record, although visually rated as VG, presents well. The push marks from the record stamper can be seen in the attached photos.
Items of Note
This record was Elvis’ 4th single. “Baby Let’s Play House” was recorded on February 11, 1955 and “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone” three weeks later on March 5, 1955. The record was released on April 10 and would end up being the penultimate Elvis release on the Sun label.
In an interview on September 26, 1956 when Elvis performed one of his famous early concerts in Tupelo at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show, his mother Gladys said that “Baby Let’s Play House” was her favorite song out of those that Elvis had recorded. Elvis changed the original lyrics of the first verse of the song to “You may have a pink Cadillac, but don’t you be nobody’s fool….”, and just a few months later when RCA bought his contract from Sun Records, Elvis received a pink Cadillac as part of the deal. The Beatles also covered the song with John Lennon singing lead vocals.
A Little About Me
I first became an Elvis fan in the fall of 1976 and received my first Elvis record for Christmas that year (from my uncle – it was a tan label “Live at Madison Square Garden” because my uncle liked the song “Never Been to Spain”). I am selling some of the records from my collection in hopes that they may bring as much joy to other Elvis fans and collectors as they have to me.
