Description
Eric Dolphy - Out There
New Jazz NJLP 8252 - Original Deep Groove (DG) 1st Pressing
Featuring Ron Carter, George Duvivier, Roy Haynes
Vinyl Condition: VG/VG+ Anyone who is familiar with this album knows there are some loud sections but a ton of stark bass solos. For this reason, you will be sensitive to minor imperfections in the vinyl compared to other records where the imperfections are masked by loud horns and drums. Therefore, it is very difficult to find a copy of this original LP in this condition. This record is very enjoyable and despite some of the imperfections listed below, there is NOT the constant background noise you might expect from a 1960 record. Also please note that the spindle hole is very slightly off center which does not affect play.
Side 1: VG+ Looks and sounds very nice. There are some light hairlines and scuffs, as well as a couple of clicks but no skips or major scratches, and much of this side plays closer to VG++. Side 2: VG The only thing keeping this side from being VG+ is a single scratch that occurs toward the end of track 1 and extends halfway through track 2. There are constant clicks through this section, but no skips / repeats. The rest of Side 2 is in the VG+ or better range.
Deadwax / Runoff Side 1: NJLP-8252-A RVG Side 2: NJLP-8252-B RVG
Cover Condition: VG++ The cover presents very nicely with a glossy front cover. The spine is in great condition, with "Prestige / New Jazz 8252", "Eric Dolphy" and "Out There" appearing clearly with no flaking.
Front: Lots of gloss on the cover and no ringwear. Very slight crease in the lower right hand corner. There are no seam splits whatsoever but a small flake on the bottom seam and all four corners are soft. Please see pictures for a view of each seam and corner. Back: Once again, no ringwear. There are no pen or pencil marks at all, just a little dirt and general wear from age. You'll also note a minor tear in the paper backing in the lower left-hand corner. See the picture for more details.
