Ernest Berk - Electronic Music For Two Ballets - UK private Avant UFO LP 1970.
Vanishingly rare and increasingly sought after Uk electronic / avant UFO LP from the late 1960’s or perhaps 1970. This private release was produced for 2 ballets on the theme of “modern youth and its ritualistic behaviour”!
It was reissued by Trunk a few years back and it’s not hard to see why - the music sounds to me like a one man Uk Todd Dockstader - wild electronic tape manipulations with dark and wild undertones, which veers into proto techno loops and drones in parts (in the sahko/pansonic school, but 25 years before their glory years).
The singular music is matched with great looking, super private, hand made sleeve complete with an esoteric illustration taped on. The intriguing insert describes the ballets the music was made to accompany. This in no 64 of reported 99/100 issued, signed by Ernest himself on the back.
Vinyl is in VG condition overall - there are light hairlines throughout both sides which cause light pops on playback on both sides. The most prominent mark across 1st 2/3rds of the A side does cause some audible light ticks (which may also be inherent in the pressing as previous sellers have suggested). Having said all of that, none of these slight imperfections take away from a truly beguiling listen from start to finish.
This copy Includes the original A4 folded Insert which has a larger tear on the top right corner and a smaller one at the bottom - neither of these affect the typed blurb.
Labels are both Vg++ with some spindle marks on both sides but still in great condition.
VG sleeve overall, with quite a bit of edge and ring wear visible, a “network africa” catalogue sticker (which I’ve not tried to remove) and some age discolouration on the main sleeve and glued on image, the later is just starting to come away from the sleeve, but could easily be glued back on.
See photos for yourself but I’d say that Overall, this is lovely copy of a UK private UFO LP which ALMOST NEVER turns up for sale.
