X LOS ANGELES
X is a noted Los Angeles punk rock band, formed in 1977. Original members were Exene Cervenka (vocals), John Doe (bass and vocals), Billy Zoom (guitar) and DJ Bonebrake (drums). Doe and Cervenka co-wrote most of the group's songs. Their poetic lyrics, reminiscent of Charles Bukowski and Raymond Chandler, and their slightly off-kilter harmony vocals remain perhaps the group's most distinctive elements. Their albums embodied a hard-driving sound infused with country, blues and rockabilly influences, and they were hugely influential on various L.A. music genres, including punk, hardcore, and folk.
X's first recording was a single for Dangerhouse,a small independent label. As X became more prominent in the local scene, a larger independent label, Slash, signed the band to issue its first LP--the one at auction here--Los Angeles, in1980. The album, produced by The Doors' keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, received major positive buzz from both the underground and mainstream media, particularly "Rolling Stone" magazine. X is widely considered one of the most accessible and tuneful of Los Angeles' many punk bands.
X's Los Angeles LP resonated so loudly with the local artisans and cultural cognocenti of that city, that the band received an Official Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles in acknowledgment of their important contributions to Los Angeles music and culture. One critic suggests that X "were not just one of the greatest punk bands, but one of the greatest live rock acts of all time."

Additionally, tipped on to the album jacket is a Backstage and After-show Party Pass
from the band's October 27, 1983 appearance at BOGART'S Club in Long Beach, CA.
In case the signatures are a be a bit difficult to see in the photo: Exene's is on her hand (and legs); John Doe's is on his sweatshirt; Billy's is next to his face and JD's should be pretty apparent, since it covers 2/3 of his body.
