As a composer, Satie was as important for the influence he had on future composers as for his own music, which is certainly charming enough. His orchestration includes such novelties as a typewriter, roulette wheel, pistol shots, and just about anything else you can imagine. Maurice Abravanel was in Paris when all of this music was new and exciting, and he knows better than just about anyone how it should sound. A classic recording.
