FAIRPORT CONVENTION: SELF-TITLED DEBUT LP 1968 WHITE LABEL PROMO ON POLYDOR Cat No. 583 035
This is a rare white label copy of Fairport's first album. The matrix numbers stamped in the run-outs confirm it is a 1968 stereo UK pressing. I know little about its origins, as the previous owner had bought it second-hand around 30 years ago."The Fairport Convention" plus the catalogue number and "A" are handwritten on one side, with the other label being blank.
*PLEASE NOTE* The record has quite a noticeable edge warp when placed on a turntable. It does, however, play through with no skips. I have uploaded videos to show the first track of each side playing, so that you can assess this issue for yourself. Please see the links lower down this page.
CONDITION OF VINYL The vinyl has no significant scratches, just some fine lines. However, as stated above, it does have quite a noticeable warp at the outer edge. The record still plays through without jumping, but there is a low "whoosh" sound audible between tracks and in quiet sections on each revolution until the stylus reaches the flat area of the vinyl. Thereafter it plays very nicely. I have uploaded videos which show the first track of each side playing, and which also show the warping much better than a photo could. CONDITION OF SLEEVE The laminated outer cover has a few "nicks" of unknown origin on the rear side. Only one of these comes right through to the front side, in the top right corner. I have tried to show these in the close-up photos. Otherwise there is some general creasing and a little wear at the edges and corners. The record came to me with a rather battered inner sleeve which has a typed track list taped to it. I will include this but will place the record in a much better poly-lined sleeve.
