A combination of hard rock (bordering on metal) and wistful folk-rock (it sounds as if Chapman and Whitney were listening to a lot of Incredible String Band), A Song for Me veers toward early progressive rock.
Perhaps their most experimental record, it seems as though the credo in making this disc was that anything-goes and on tracks like "Drowned in Wine," it works extremely well.
And again, Chapman offers more proof of his vocal greatness, and again the record sells large quantities in England but practically nothing in America

LABELS: EXCELLENT
Clean, unmarked labels which display moderate, not excessive spindle traces - clearly seen a few spins but carefully handled
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT
Both vinyl surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen with only a few marks - these have no audible significance
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT
Play-checked at loud volume the record sounds great - strong, sharp, rich and warm and incredibly immediate and it plays with no major audible distractions - just a touch of background surface on some of the track divisions/quietest sections and the occasional light click but nothing I found at all intrusive - wonderful LP, dense and detailed and more rewarding on each successive listen
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
Being black and untreated this is always a difficult sleeve to find in decent condition but this one has held up remarkably well and it's one of the better ones I've seen in a while as apart from some rub to the corners it is clean and fresh which none of the common ring wear and a strong spine which displays all text clear and bold
INSERT: EXCELLENT
Fine example, clean and unmarked - no heavy creasing or damage
