Description
Outstanding vintage jazz LP featuring ART FARMER and GIGI GRYCE on the PRESTIGE label, from the mid fifties. Title is “When Farmer Met Gryce.” Mono pressing, label address is “ 446 W. 50th ST., N.Y.C.” Catalog number is PRLP 7085.
Label is yellow with black print, has deep groove in label on both sides. Label address is “Prestige Records Inc. * 446 W. 50th St., N.Y.C.” Has “RVG” machine stamped in the trailoff vinyl on both sides. Jacket has “447 West 50th Street, New York 19, N.Y.” at bottom on the reverse.
Two sessions on this album. First session (May 19, 1954) consists of the following personnel: ART FARMER – trumpet; GIGI GRYCE – alto sax; HORACE SILVER – piano; PERCY HEATH – bass; and KENNY CLARKE – drums.
Second session (May 26, 1955) consists of the following personnel: ART FARMER – trumpet; GIGI GRYCE – alto sax; FREDDIE REDD – piano; ADDISON FARMER – bass; and ARTHUR TAYLOR – drums.
Side A tunes are as follows: “A Night at Tony’s,” “Blue Concept,” “Stupendous-Lee,” and “Deltitnu.” Side B contains the following tunes: “Social Call,” “Capri,” “Blue Lights,” and “The Infant Song.” All tunes on this album are compositions of Gigi Gryce.
Condition of jacket is nice VG+, artwork is nice and brignt, no splits or serious problems, reverse has some light wear and a few small light stains, nothing serious, overall a fine jacket.
Vinyl is excellent, has full original gloss, a few (3 to 4) very slight hairlines on each side, not audible, no serious marks, nice clean labels, plays beautifully. I am certain the winning bidder will be very pleased.
