"Lagos Baby 1963-69" on VAMPI SOUL RECORDS ( 097 ) - a double-LP of early Fela Kuti material that comes with a 10-inch bonus disc (a 1966 LIVE concert recording).

"Lagos Baby compiles Fela Kuti's work in the 60's decade. Here's the musical birth of a myth and giant of world music. A torrid and infectious rhythmic mix of West Africa's Highlife music, jazz, soul, funk and Afro-Beat. ( Includes poster-sized extensive liner notes.)"
From my research on the WWW:
"Seminal sounds from the earliest years of Afro Funk -- rare 60s material from Fela Kuti, most of it recorded long before he achieved international fame! The styles here are often different than Fela's longer funky work of the 70s -- shorter tunes that revel in a variety of African modes -- including highlife, jazzy grooves, and some straighter soul-based work! The sound's often quite raw -- partly due to the age of the recordings, partly due to the hard percussion and raspy horn work -- and the tracks all pack a hell of a lot of punch, especially as some of Fela's more complicated rhythm styles start to appear on the second half of the set. Some tracks are preformed with Fela's early Koola Lobitos group, and the set also features material from a rare live 10" album too!"
This double-album (plus the 10" bonus disc) is in FACTORY SEALED condition with no punch holes or cut corners. It seems as if the vinyl version of this release was a Limited Edition, although there are no numbers on the album cover to that effect, e.g., "#142 of 1,000". In keeping with this tentative conclusion, my search on the web for another sealed copy of this double-LP + 10" bonus disk was fruitless.
