About This Album:
All the music in this album was recorded during the last days of the Fillmore in San Fransisco.
The album opens with John Walker , to whom it is dedicated . It ends with a taped rendition of "Greensleeves" the music so often used to close out a night at the Fillmore . I thought it was only fifting to use , this final time , for the closing of the ballroom . In between is the music of San Fransisco . The musicians themselves decided what material was to be used .
For me , this album reflects all the delicious madness that made up the Fillmore years . The last-minute frantic preparations were richly rewarded by five evenings of sheer joy . We turned back the clocks and revelled in the warm light of the old days-for so many of the young old-timers seemed to have come out of woodwork to pay homage to one another , to the artists , and to the Fillmore , just one last time . I think that once you get into it , you'll have been there with us .
