Okay - this is a 'MONSTER' single by all standards, and now that it's well known through being compiled so thoroughly - it's HIGHLY sought and regarded. Yes of course, it has also been 'bootlegged' or 're-issued' or however they like to call those thin substandard pressings that can be found in proliferation.
This is a nice 'LOUD' pressing, cut deep and dimensional and projecting every wonderful note with clarity.
The sound is VERY reminiscent of Pink Floyd singles, and I think that's deliberate too, as Psychedelic Rock was finding some niche in the pop singles sections - even the UFO stalwart 'Underground' bands like Tomorrow and Dantalian's Chariot got out some radio-friendly tunes on 7".
The flip too, reminds of Syd Barrett English sensibility, for a punchy but sublime story-poem delivered with a kind-of 'sideways stare' in the imagination. More upbeat than Floyd's 'Scarecrow' though - more akin to 'Bike' perhaps.
FIRE issued a concept album that doesn't even sound remotely like this single at all in my ears, but it's the same group all the same. I believe they had some Strawbs members, incidentally - which might make sense with the 'quintessential English' sound which you can detect in both bands.
This is VERY rare and hard to find, so take it into consideration when bidding to own this gem.
The vinyl grades VG+, plays loud and clear.
Quite a few surface-scuffs, no deep scratches but having some crackle.
I grade this as a REAL VG+, so do not compare 'some sellers grades' with mine please, this is as laid-down in Record Collector books
Lables are bright and clean VG+/VG++ (see pics)
