Before the Five Americans started having hits in '66 with songs like "Western Union" and "I See The Light" they cut some singles you might never have seen.
The majority of their career was on the Dallas label Abnak Records. However, when they started out, they were on the Abnak subsidiary Jetstar Records. Of those early records, this is the best of them all, and is their rippin' version of the Little Richard tune "Slippin' and Sliddin'" on Jetstar 105. It hit the streets in 1965 just after the band came down to Dallas from Oklahoma.
The thing that really makes this a sought-after record is the gritty, fuzzed out guitar. It was in the days before effects pedals and it's said the sound came from a busted amp and they decided it sounded pretty cool.
On the flipside is their original tune "I'm Feeling O. K." The single didn't get much reception at radio so Jetstar was quickly deleted. The garage band sound of the Five Americans would soon be polished into something a bit more girl-friendly and they'd start having hits It would take another three releases before they found success. This is a rather obscure little local record.
