      WORDS FALL SHORT IN DESCRIBING THIS ALBUM, WHOSE FANTASTIC AND ABSOLUTELY INIMITABLE MIXTURE OF GOSPEL, SOUL, DOO-WOP, ROCK&ROLL AND BLUES YET HAS TO BE IMPROVED EVEN 60 YEARS AFTER ITS RECORDING. IN HIS LINER NOTES TO THE FIVE ROYALES "MONKEY BEANS AND RICE" ANTHOLOGY SOME YEARS AGO, RENOWNED A&R PERSON AND DJ ED WARD NOTES THAT - IF ONLY HE COULD - HE WOULD GIVE OUT A COPY OF THIS ALBUM TO EVERYONE HE KNOWS, JUST TO DEMONSTRATE THE GREATNESS OF THIS MUSIC. WE HAVE NOTHING TO ADD TO OR SUBTRACT FROM HIS REMARK EXCEPT, MAYBE, THAT THIS WOULD BE NEAR-IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE ORIGINAL COPIES OF THIS ALBUM EXCHANGE HANDS FOR AS MUCH AS $1000 ON THE OPEN MARKET.

       FINALLY, THESE GREAT SONGS HAVE BEEN COVERED BY EVERYONE FROM JAMES BROWN TO SHIRELLES , BUT -- TAKE MY WORD - NOTHING, AND NOBODY, BEATS THE ORIGINALS. BY THE WAY, LONNIE MACK IS RUMORED TO PLAY GUITAR ON SOME OF THE TRACKS (THE GENERAL CONSENSUS IS THAT THE LEAD GUITAR ON THESE SESSIONS IS LOWMAN PAULING, THOUGH)--- AND YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THAT A GUITAR SOUND LIKE THIS WAS POSSIBLE IN 1957!!!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.There are absolutely NO signiticant or scarring scratches on the disc, and the disc plays NEAR MINT throughout, with only a minor surface noise here and there, and without any distortion whatsoever. This album was play-graded.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some writing on its back side (name of the previous owner written in blue ballpoint pen, about ½ x 2.1/2 inches in size)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 2 (back side)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners. (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No stamps

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
