Description

Mega Rare 78 rpm Demonstration disc by the Woody Herman Woodchoppers featuring Flip Phillips playing a Sweetwind penny whistle manufactured by the Pioneer Musical Instrument Company of Chicago, IL. Woody Herman endorsed this toy instrument for the Pioneer Company. The session was recorded in Chicago in 1946.  Flip Phillips plays the Sweetwind penny whistle on both tracks accompanied by the Woodchoppers rhythm section of pianist Ralph Burns, bassist Chubby Jackson, guitarist Billy Bauer and drummer Don Lamond. Both sides of the disc have a picture of the Woodchoppers on the label. While Woody Herman is pictured on the label, he doesn't play on the tracks. As far as I can determine, these sides have never been reissued.

Condition:  Excellent Minus (E-); a glossy disc with some scuffing and a few light scratches which do not affect play.
