Bell Song and Musical Snuff Box
Florence Foster Jenkins records are hyper-rare, and this unfortunate copy is from my own collection. Some idiot accidentally dropped it <shrugs>. It's not cracked, it just has that chip in the edge.
The label on the Snuff Box side is mostly gone, but that was not caused by some idiot. It's always been like that.
Audio quality is excellent. The recording is surprisingly clear with only a little hiss. Judging by the chip in the side of this copy, these records were much higher quality than other home-recording records at the time, i.e. Recordio.
So if you WANT a Florence Foster Jenkins record, but don't mind the damage, this record will fill that need.
What's most interesting for me when listening to Florence Foster Jenkins recordings is the incongruity. Cosme McMoon playing piano accompaniment is superb. He's a total professional. Jenkins singing, however, is totally incongruous to the piano. But you'll notice if you listen closely that she's really not that horrible. Compare her to those who've auditioned on American Idol over the years. She's better than a a LOT of them. Jenkins had syphilis; it's been reported that she had tinnitus which would have affected her singing. It's obvious she's trying, though. And because she loved singing so much, and had such confidence in her own talent, she made these recordings. They were sold privately, not in music stores. These Melotone records are truly one of a kind.
