FRANK ZAPPA "Let's Drink Some Beer And Hear Frank Zappa"
A true collector's item:
This FZ bootleg LP is a follow-up release to the earlier portion of a 1976 concert in Munich, heard on the two-record set Pappa Zappa. Like its predecessor, it was recorded by a member of the audience who was relatively well positioned, except that only the lead instrument and percussion is heard very well at any given moment. Zappa's guitar playing is, of course, the focal point of this release. "Chunga's Revenge" begins the set, and while Napoleon Murphy Brock's tenor sax is energetic, it is no match for earlier recordings by Ian Underwood (on either commercial or bootleg records); it is also flawed by a dropout, probably caused by accidentally stopping the recorder. Terry Bozzo's closing drum solo at the end of the song provides a segue into one of Zappa's best compositions from this era, "Zoot Allures," a brilliant instrumental which in turn segues into Zappa's fascinating use of the wah-wah pedal in yet another instrumental, "Ship Ahoy," which is very brief compared to the Osaka version. Zappa wraps the concert prior to the encores with band introductions over a brief excerpt from "Inca Roads," which he used an opening and closing theme song during this particular tour. The second side is devoted to vocal comedy numbers, including "Dinah Moe Humm," "I'm the Slime," and the hard rocking "San Ber'dino."
